How To React To Negative Emotions |

Most of us will react to negative emotions in a negative way. How we react to negative emotions can have a direct influence on our own attitude and outlook on a situation or life in general. Look around you - there is alot of negativity out there. Here are some suggestions on how to react to negative emotions so they will not bring you down with them. 1. Always look for the positive. If someone around you is surrounded by negativity and it is affecting how you feel then look for the positive in the situation. Whether or not it is appropriate to bring up the positive thought at that time doesn't matter. You can still think the positive thought and this will help negate the effects of the negativity. 2. Change the topic as soon as possible. If someone is verbally expressing negative emotions, to protect yourself from getting caught up in it, it is best to change the subject. Talk about something positive. Stay off of the subject that the person was talking about. If they keep coming back to it then do your best to keep talking about something different. 3. Don't give anyone the chance to engage in negative conversation. If someone initiates a negative conversation either keep moving or pretend you didn't hear them and talk about something else. If they are a dominant talker then the second they take a breath interject a new topic. Don't ever question them about what they just said. That will only fuel their fire and make them think you are interested in what they are talking about. People that carry negative emotions are always looking for an audience to share them with. Don't give them the chance. 4. Avoidance. Avoid negative people. Don't go near them. Surround yourself with positive people. This is not always easy to do but turkeys tend to flock with turkeys, eagles with eagles. Start flocking with the eagles. Let the turkeys go their own way. You will feel alot better with the eagles. Incorporating these thoughts and actions into your everyday routine can help you react to negative emotions in a more positive way. You will most certainly feel better about yourself in the long run if you do.
